While the actual Assassin’s Creed series games are struggling right now, the time is ripe for all the Assassin’s Creed fans to take a look at the AssassinCraft mod! The mod adds a new animus dimension with animals, NPCs, enemies, dungeons and tons of new Assassin-themed weapons and armor. Let’s dive right in…
To truly take advantage of all the features the mod offers, you’ll need to be in the new Animus dimension. While you can certainly build some armor and weapons in the overworld and use the mod that way, I really recommend you get to the Animus dimension first. To get there, you build a portal out of stone and light it with an animus key which is crafted from four iron pieces around a diamond.
The Animus dimension in Assassincraft is much like the overworld, except it’s filled with new content. First off, there’s the regular old enemies who spawn in groups all over the dimension. Guards, soldiers and archers of all kinds, all inspired by enemies from the Assassin’s Creed games (mostly Brotherhood, as the mod’s author states). They roam the world and are hostile. They drop florin bags, the currency in AssassinCraft, ammo like throwing knives, and even full blown weapons.
But, the enemies aren’t just outside, there’s dungeons in the Animus dimension, or to be more specific, lairs for the Followers of Romulus, a sacred place they will defend, but contains a chest filled with very valuable weapons in armor, hidden behind a door that can only be opened with a Romulus key. To get the Romulus key, you need to collect all the pieces in random loot chests around the world, giving you a goal to work towards in this new dangerous dimension.
Aside from all these hostile enemies, there’s also a single animal, the Deer, which seems out of place since it is alone in a world full of enemies, but I reckon once the mod adds more animals, it will start to make more sense. There are also NPCs that you can trade with, notably the Blacksmith which spawns in his little crafting hut and sells you weapons in exchange for florin bags.
The weapons and armor in the AssassinCraft mod are diverse and interesting. The armors can all be crafted with their own unique recipe, and there’s armor styles for all of the famous Assassin’s Creed assassins. The weapons are inspired by the game as well, and range from the iconic hidden blade to spears and other big weapons. One of the best things about the mod is finding a new type of weapon in a random loot chest and then trying it out for yourself. The final touch is the haybale blocks scattered around, which negate fall damage, allowing you to relive the thrill of that iconic dive.
And that’s about it! I think the AssassinCraft mod is already pretty good and has a sizable amount of content, but has the potential to become even more, assuming the developers continue to add new content. I also recommend installing the Smart Moving mod simply because you can’t have Assassin’s Creed without parkour.
