Each year we try to showcase something to get you in the holiday mood. This year we’ve got something special – Christmas Adventure – a festive map by DoubleUpGaming. It’s the full package – it’s got a resource pack, special mechanics, and even voice acting! Let’s take a look…
Christmas Adventure starts off wonderfully – after you press the button to start in the lobby you’re teleported to a cozy cottage in what I assume is Santa’s village. Immediately you come into contact with the voice acting aspect of things as Saint Nicholas himself start talking to you and gives you, the lowly elf, a mission to save Christmas.
You start off and explore the village, which is strangely obsessed with melons. Exploring is rewarded with candy, the currency in this particular map, and the goal in this introductory first chapter is to fix a broken train by finding power sources. I won’t go on, since the story is a big part of the experience, and you should experience it yourself. It is also accompanied by some pretty cool effects, so you have that to look forward to as well.
The map also includes a shop system that you access by stepping on one of the portals throughout the world. There you can purchase items to help you on your quest using candy. This encourages exploration and provides a nice progression system to the mod.
The resource pack included with the map fits it wonderfully – providing the world with an up-res to 64x and a nice fitting festive feel. It also allowed the authors to get a bit more creative with props, adding to the experience.
Overall, I really enjoyed this map. I recommend you check it out if you’re feeling festive. You can get it yourself here:
