Now that we’ve had some time to play around with Minecraft 1.9, we’ve been able to notice the smaller, more subtle changes and additions to the game. Here come the 5 awesome tidbits that I found to be cool in the Combat Update…

Flying into a wall

With the way the new wings work, you’re going to have a few accidents adjusting to this new dimension of movement. Some of those might involve flying straight into a solid wall and killing yourself. That’s where this new death message comes in!

The way Chorus plants break

Chorus plants are a major addition from the Minecraft 1.9 Combat Update, but have you noticed how they break? Once a piece is broken, the ones above it will be destroyed too like cacti, but with Chorus plant there’s a short delay that makes it that much more satisfying.

Choosing a dominant hand

For a long time, the default dominant hand was right, and that was kind of okay since we didn’t have offhand items anyway. However, since offhand items were added in 1.9, this option was very welcome.

Reset world icon option

Sometimes you just want to change the icon for your world in the menu because the current one is ugly. With the new redesigned world select screen came the ability to reset the icon, a feature many might have missed.

Tactics of infiltration

Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer with mob heads. Wearing a mob head will now decrease detection range for that type of mob. Obviously it doesn’t work on bosses and won’t have much gameplay implication, but it’s still a cool feature nonetheless.

That’s it! Those are the 5 awesome tidbits I promised. Stay tuned for even more Minecraft goodness, as well as our usual mod reviews and other cool stuff!
