As you’ve probably noticed by now, Minecraft has been updated for 1.1. I am sorry we’re a little late on these news, I was on vacation with no Internet access this week, so only an article I prepared before – the Better Dungeons article – went up this week. Nevertheless 1.1 is here and boasts a couple of cool new features and fixes, and some less than cool changes (we’ll get to that later).
Here is the official changelog:
+ Bow Enchantments
+ New language translations.
+ Sheep eat grass and regain their wool
+ Added spawn eggs to creative (the colors of the eggs even look like the mobs)
+ Added world type options (currently only super-flat and default)
* Golden Apple recipe
* Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes
* Reduced brewing time to 20 seconds
* Removed collision box from ladders
* Bug fixing
While bow enchantments, new languages and spawn eggs are awesome features, many in the Minecraft community are lashing out against the ladder hitbox removal, and rightfully so: the removal of a hitbox for fences disabled some entrances that use them and trapdoors, made breaking them impossible without breaking the block, disabled some water systems and generally screwed up a lot of stuff. Sheep wool regrowth is awesome, and, frankly, it’s about damn time it was added, as well as the super-flat world option. Here’s the official trailer for the update by Hat Films:
This update also breaks a whole lot of mods, and so we may not have many mod releases to report on in the coming weeks. Tell us what you thought of the update in the comments below!
