Pop culture’s fascination with zombies is interesting to say the least, and there are many depictions of the undead buggers in our culture. However, Minecraft’s depiction is rather stale. Some of the most interesting and popular zombie traits aren’t even in the game. Zombies just kind of aimlessly walk around and then run straight at you when they spot you. That stops today, if you choose to download Coros’ Zombie Awareness mod, which makes zombies smarter and more dangerous…
Zombie Awareness adds a bleeding system which leaves blood splatters on the floor when you’re hit and even makes you bleed out slowly when you’re at low health. This simple addition makes combat feel more hardcore and dangerous. The visual feedback that the bloody floor gives you drives in the point of you being badly hurt and does wonders for immersion. In their endless hunt for brains, zombies would surely have to pay attention to blood, and with this mod they do. They will smell blood from far away and hunt you down when you’re bleeding out. Scary stuff.
Another zombie trait from popular movies and videogames is their sensitivity to sound and light. This makes it into Zombie Awareness as well, with zombies heading towards large light sources if they can see them (no wall-hack cheating, only if they have line of sight), making your shiny new base a good ole’ fashioned target. They also react to sound, so it might be time to start securing the area if you intend to dig out that iron, since digging will alert nearby zombies and make them head to your location.
The light and sound sensitivity ties in with another feature I adore in Zombie Awareness, and that’s the pack tendency, aka. zombies finally grouping up. Not only will they spawn in groups at night, groups can even sometimes meet up and wander together. No more easy lone zombie pickoffs for experience, zombies are now crowds that are a force to be reckoned with. So they spawn in large numbers, group up, and head for large light sources. But what does that really mean for you, huddled up in your nice house? It means invasions and tense combat, improving the overall experience.
All of these new features, along with a small speed boost to zombies, make for a better and deeper combat experience. Some of these features also work on skeletons, despite zombies being the main focus. Overall, this is yet another homerun for modder Coros who has been putting out stellar mods for a while now. I recommend you get it immediately, and you can do so here:
