Animated Player - a nice and simple aesthetic mod

Sometimes mods don't have to be overly complicated to be great. Sometimes it's enough to do something small in order to improve the game. One such mod is Animated Player by thehippomaster21, a simple aesthetic mod that reworks the player model, giving it new animations and features including facial expressions. Let's take a look…

Right off the bat you'll notice the plethora of great new animations for your player. These resemble the amazing 3D animated videos you've surely seen on Youtube, and look amazing and far more natural even in the blocky world of Minecraft. These new animations cover everything you could possibly want, as the creator of Animated Player himself put it:

Currently this mod replaces animations for walking, running, swimming, jumping, sneaking, riding, bow-aiming, blocking, climbing, hitting, eating, and drinking!

These animations are not unlike the ones in the Smart Moving mod, though this mod does not actually alter the movement engine.

Animated Player also changes your character's face and adds cool new features. Most noticeable will be the new animated eyes that look at whatever you're looking at (the head moves too), and look great. The mouth and eyebrows also animate according to the situation you're in, making facial expressions possible. You'll pant when you're tired and look angry when you're fighting. You can see the face features best in our close up thumbnail image.

Animated Player also handles the technical side of things impressively. Everything is client side, so there won't be any problems in Multiplayer and the features will work regardless of your mode. It does require special textures for some of the facial features to work, and you can get these from a very extensive archive here. I found a nice Ezio skin for myself, and there's plenty of options in there for everyone. Some of them even have 3D hats, another feature of the mod.

All in all, I really like what this mod does to the game's aesthetic. It seems to fit right in with my HD texture pack and it made the third person camera viable, not to mention how great it looks when interacting with other people in Multiplayer. It's a mod I'll be keeping around for a while. You can get it here:
