Now, onto the mod itself.

Twilight Forest is among the most famous Minecraft mods, and for good reason. It's chock full of quality content, and the dimension it adds is magically beautiful. It's not a one-trick-pony like some dimensions - Twilight Forest is a diverse landscape with multiple unique biomes, lots of interesting mobs and randomly generated structures. There's simply a ton to do in the Twilight Forest, and this guide is here to help guide you along.

While Twilight Forest used to be a completely open-ended experience, an update changed that to add a progression system that will guide players along a set path of bosses and biomes suited for their skill level and equipment. Bosses will be in their giant recognizable structures, and new biomes will be protected from your interference until you reach them through the progression system. This guide will help you understand that progression system and enjoy the mod without being confused as to what is going on. It will tell you the basics of how to move on, without trying to reveal the gritty details, allowing for a pleasant educated experience while maintaining most of the wonder of exploring the world yourself.

To enter the Twilight Forest dimension you have to build a simple, yet fitting portal. Dig a 2×2 hole in the dirt and place flowers around it, then throw a diamond in. Lightning will strike, and a portal will appear through which you can enter and start your adventure.

Once you're in the Twilight Forest, you'll find yourself in the forest biome, which is the starting zone. Now, to progress, you'll have to complete some things, but you can read about that in part 2 of the guide. In this part, I'm going to help you set up and introduce you to some of the content that isn't locked into the progression system, and the two big baddies of that category are the Hollow Hills and the Hedge Mazes.

But first, you have to build your foothold. You will need a base of operations, even when you progress beyond the initial biome. I recommend building a simple home next to your portal. It could also be beneficial to craft a Magic Map out of some simple easy to obtain new Twilight Forest items, as it will mark nearby bosses and points of interest.

Now you're ready to go adventuring, but, before you go up against your first boss, you could raid a Hollow Hill for resources. From the outside, Hollow Hills look like regular overworld hills, but somehow too… neat. They're always shaped like a very even sphere, so they are easily recognizable even without a Magic Map.

On the inside, they are filled with spawners and dangerous, but also loot in the form of chests and ore. Brave the hill and defeat the swarm of enemies, then enjoy the spoils of your labor.

The other important randomly generated structure you'll encounter is the Hedge Maze. Hedge Mazes are large, but well lit, mazes made of leaf blocks. They have a clear entrance, though you can always block above them for easy access.

Inside the maze, you will once again find spawners that spawn hostile enemies, and mobs from multiple spawners will often attack you at the same time, so be careful.

Now, you have your base of operations and hopefully enough resources that you are ready to face the challenges ahead. You've already seen some of the forest biome, but in the next edition we'll cover the mobs and bosses. If you stray into other biomes before defeating the bosses in the current one, the progression system will block you by making enemies invulnerable and the bosses chambers unapproachable.

For now, that's it, but stay tuned for more Twilight Forest, as well as Minecraft mods in general. Like always, feel free to leave any feedback you might have in the comment section below.
