Lucky Block adds a single block to the game - the Lucky Block itself. It's a simple concept - a craftable block that takes your mostly useless gold and turns it into something random. So… why is it so widely loved? We found out…
The Lucky Block is crafted using 4 gold ingots and a dropper (found naturally in the world), and is quite a fascinating concept - it's a block that you place and then break, which activates a random outcome. It can be a drop, it can spawn an animal, animals, or even entire structures. It's become much more than just the random item drop it once was. There's even a chance for it to spawn randomly in the world via temples like the one below.
While it is simple it concept, it fits in well with Minecraft's general mechanics - not only does it provide a new use for the currently pretty useless gold, it also provides another element of randomly generated fun, which is a core concept of Minecraft. It's simple and fun, and it can have some pretty amusing outcomes…
… like when one spawned me a cat army, which I then took on a journey across the world. And that is just one of many, many possible outcomes. Obviously I won't list all the possibilities - that would spoil all the fun. Just be prepared, since not all the outcomes will be good, and if you get bad luck, it can end up ruining your current world.
And that's really about it. Lucky Block is a simple concept turned into a beautiful mod that will provide you with entertainment every time you activate it. It has a place in my modlist, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. Get it yourself here:
